Frequently Asked QuestionsHow much do I have to pay to my Debt Management Plan?Payments are tailor made for you. No matter how much debt you have outstanding your monthly payment is based around what you can reasonably afford each month. How often do I have to make payments?Payments can be made monthly, fortnightly or weekly whatever suits you best. How do I know my debts are being paid?Portwood send you a monthly statement confirming who has been paid and how much has been paid to them. What if I need advice during my plan?Portwood have a strict no call centre policy. When your plan starts you are allocated your own, experienced advisor who will personally handle your plan. You will receive no ‘blanket’ advice, your advisor will know the intricate details of your plan and will be able to help with any query you may have quickly and effectively. How can I make payments?Because you may have suffered bank charges and financial difficulties because of direct debits we prefer Portwood and your creditors not to have access to your bank account. You can make payments to us however suits you best, by debit card, standing order from your bank, bank payment slips or postal orders. What happens if my circumstances change during the plan?Your Plan is variable - If you can’t afford your payments due to a change in circumstances you can lower them to make them more manageable. Similarly if your circumstances improve and you want to clear your accounts more quickly they can be increased. Is my plan confidential?Portwood will never disclose any of your details to anyone. Unlike bankruptcy the arrangement is private this includes your employer particularly relevant to those working in the armed forces or the police force. Do I have to be working to qualify for a plan?No, so long as you have a regular income and can afford repayments Portwood can help. Does it matter if I’m a homeowner or a tenant?Our Debt Management plans are available for both homeowners and tenants alike. Can I put all my creditors on my plan?Portwood can help with all unsecured credit agreements such as Loans, credit cards, store cards, catalogues, bank overdrafts. We can also offer assistance with arrears on secured bills such as car finance and mortgage/ secured loan payments. Can Portwood help with my household bills?Unlike most other Debt Management Companies Portwood do offer support with arrears of household bills such as Gas, Electric, Water Rates, Council Tax, rent and mortgage payments. Can I get help with tax bills?Portwood have a tax issue assistance team who can help you with business debts, Income tax arrears and business rates issues. What if I have an eviction notice or a repossession order and I am about to lose my home?Portwood offer advice on all home repossession and eviction issues. We have a wealth of experience dealing with Homeowners, Council tenants and those renting from or having part ownership with housing associations. |
